Frostleaf cools by conducting heat away from the body rather than by holding a chilled gel, so there is nothing to freeze, fill or plug in. Lay it down and it works, which means it keeps working on the fourth hot day in a row when a gel pad has long since warmed up and stopped doing anything useful.

The surface is an ice silk weave over a taffeta backing. Air moves through it instead of being trapped against the skin, and that breathability is what stops the sweaty, clammy feeling that makes a lot of pets abandon a cooling mat within minutes and go lie on the bathroom tiles instead.

It is thin and flexible, so it rolls up small. That makes it as useful in the boot of a car, inside a crate, or on top of an existing bed as it is on bare floor, and it can be hand washed and air dried when it picks up hair and dust over a long summer.
